In February, the Dubai Police announced that motorists can get discounts up to 100% on their outstanding fines, if they follow traffic rules and avoid committing traffic violations for 12 months.

We’ve broken down the process for you to make it easier to understand the terms of this discount.

  1. Starting February 6th, if you don’t commit a traffic violation for three months, that is until the 6th of May, you can avail a discount of 25% on your fines.
  2. Following that, you can avail a discount of 50% if you don’t commit a traffic violation for six months, a 75% discount if you don’t commit a violation for nine months and up to 100% discount if you don’t commit a violation for 12 months.
  3. The discounts do not apply to parking and Salik fines
  4. This initiative is only applicable to vehicles registered in Dubai
  5. The discount is not applicable to vehicles registered to rental cars, private companies, and public and private companies
  6. The discounts are not valid for fines issued by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) or Dubai municipality.

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-In-Chief for Operations stated that:

If a motorist commits a traffic violation, the grace period for the discount offer will be recounted from the date of the new violation.

In addition to that, he mentioned that if the motorist resides outside Dubai for three consecutive months of the date of the fine, they will not be able to avail the discount.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police, Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, stated that “the new initiative has been taken after a thorough study of what is happening on the ground.”

This initiative has been taken to ensure the happiness of people in Dubai and is in line with the Year of Tolerance. The Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police also added that this initiative sends a message that the new road rules are in place to serve communities and not just there to discipline offenders.
