As of March 17, 2019, the new speed limit on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will be 100kmph. This is the route between Dubai-Al Ain Road and Al Yalayes Road.

Maitha bin Adai, the CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, stated that, “The decision to raise the speed limit on this sector of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street has been taken after elaborate studies conforming to the Speed Management Manual in Dubai”.

The current speed limits are being constantly reviewed as part of the traffic safety studies carried out by the Road and Transport Authority, on key roads and streets in Dubai. Decreasing or increasing the speed limit on these key roads depend on a number of factors and will be evaluated by the surrounding environment around the roadsides and the rate of growth around those areas.

The speed limit of this specific route has been revised after considering factors like the urbanisation of the areas around it, traffic flow and optimal speed rates, the availability of important faculties and the presence of pedestrians.

Following this, the existing speed limit signage will be changed to reflect the new speed limit and cautionary signs will be displayed to ensure RTA’s vision of Safe and Smooth transport For All.

Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, the Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations, Dubai Police, stated, “Measures will be taken to adjust the speed cameras and set them at 120 km/h for the safety of road users. RTA and Dubai Police are engaged in continuous consultation and coordination including examining the current speed limits on some roads that need to be adjusted, and taking appropriate decisions in line with the vision of Dubai Government aimed at enhancing the traffic safety on Dubai roads.”
