It was UAE’s 47th National Day on the 2nd of December and it should come as no surprise that the celebrations were incredibly massive! From an airshow, to parades and some international tributes, the entire country was beaming with pride and enthusiasm.

The UAE National Day has been celebrated since 1971 to officiate the union of the 6 Emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Al Ain, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain, with Ras Al Khaimah joining the UAE as the 7th Emirate in 1972. This year was The Year of Zayed, marking a tribute to His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan; for his wisdom and his passion to work towards making the UAE what it is today.

There were events all around the Emirates and people went out of their way to engage with each other and celebrate this joyous day, and the beautiful weather added to it too! These are some of the festivities that took place this year:

  • An LED Tribute Show display on the Burj Khalifa
  • The National Anthem being performed by musicians from the 190 countries who will be participating in the Expo 2020

  • An aerobatic performance at the Abu Dhabi Corniche

  • UAE Solidarity Walk at Al Mamzar beach
  • Fireworks display at La Mer, Abu Dhabi Corniche, Global Village
  • UAE Heritage show at Al Seef

One of the most common sights during National Day is a parade of cars on the highways, in City Walk or even in La Mer, all decorated in different and creative ways to display love and admiration for the country.
