Daimler is expanding it’s private car rental app to 15 German cities. Daimler’s mobile app Croove will be globally expanding by 2018 via acquisitions in US and China. This was recently reported in German publication Handelsblatt. This marks a serious shift towards mass market private car rental space by Daimler.

How does private car rental work?

Private car rental is an industry fast gaining ground in Western markets around the world. The concept is all about car sharing. Luxury car owners will rent their private cars to other individuals looking to rent a luxury car. Daimler claims Croove will enable luxury car rental prices to drop 20% compared to market rates. Daimler will compete with established car rental companies like Sixt and Avis. The global car rental market is estimated to be over $70 billion USD.

Private car rental in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) recently passed legislation allowing a few diverse types of car and limo rentals. These included app based limo ride booking services like Careem and pay-as-you-go services like uDrive. What is currently not included is the idea that individual car owners can rent their own vehicle to other people. This is currently illegal according to Dubai law. Last year, the RTA fined some drivers in Dubai for not implementing the law properly.

Innovation in car rental space

Dubai is witnessing a phenomenal rise in innovation. This is particularly true in transportation industry. Legislation is only a matter of time. EjarCar.com already has the backend infrastructure to enable P2P (peer to peer) car rentals in UAE. Once the legislation is implemented, it’s only a matter of time to sign up enough members. This will enable us to reduce luxury car rental prices even further. So a Mercedes S Class, now renting out for approximately 1,500 AED per day on EjarCar.com will probably rent out 20% lower. This is great news for the customer and also for the community who will have fewer cars eventually on the roads.
