A road trip from Dubai to Ghantoot is peaceful and serene. Ghantoot is about halfway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, about one hour road trip from Dubai city and is a perfect tranquility spot for a city getaway. We rented the Chevrolet Tahoe LS for our drive, available for online rental booking here.

Route: Road trip from Dubai to Ghantoot

The road trip starts from Sheikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi. Cross Jebel Ali and Ibn Battuta Mall, go all the way for about 40 miles or 66 kilometers, short and sweet, perfect for tourists. There are a couple of big gas stations along the way including a McDonalds drive thru to load up on petrol and munchies. One important tip is to avoid driving to Ghantoot between 12 am – 8 am at night because there is a lot of fog and sometimes visibility can be really bad. This can be really dangerous as the horrific accident in 2008 demonstrated, so beware of the fog late at night.

Once there check out the secluded hotels and resorts, such as Golden Tulip and Five Continents Hotels. There are also some bungalows which can be rented out based on availability. We recommend going on weekends to Blue Marlin at Golden Tulip for one of the best beach parties in town. On regular days the place is super quiet and reclusive.

Despite the seclusion, there is a lot to do at Ghantoot. Water sports is huge so jet skiing is a lot of fun. Boating and cruising along the Marina will a full crew is also very relaxing and surreal during winter season. Ghantoot is one of the few places where people can lounge at the beach, camp in the desert and cruise along the man made Ghantoot Marina in a peaceful location away from the crowds.

Most of all, Ghantoot is located between two major cities so you have the opportunity to experience Dubai as well as Abu Dhabi while staying in a central location. It’s also located close to the Al Maktoum International Airport so if you use that for your international flights, it’s the perfect proximity sweet spot.
