The new cosmopolitan Dubai makes camel spotting in local culture a bit tricky. To see camels in action, a drive to Lehbab is essential. Lehbab is a quaint village about 50 km from Dubai city. It is known for camel raising, camel farms, camel training for races and breeding. It is a great place to see Bedouin life at a short drive from the city.
Driving Directions
The camel spotting drive starts by taking the E44 road (also known as Al Khail Road) towards Hatta and Oman. An alternative route is to take the E66 road (also known as Dubai – Al Ain Road) towards Hatta and Oman. We recommend taking the E44 road because it’s a more direct route. Drive for about 35 minutes until you see the sign for Lehbab. The road trip is full of reddish sand dunes and it’s recommended to go either early morning around 7am or afternoon around 5pm to avoid too much sun and traffic.
Camel Spotting Dos and Don’ts
A few tips on camel spotting. First, don’t get too close to the camels with the car. It’s ok to stop the car on the side and wave to a few locals, they are quite friendly and might allow you to come close on foot and take pictures with the camels. Second, drive very carefully because camels walk around close to the farms and they might be crossing tracks so be careful, drive slow and avoid an accident. Finally, enjoy yourself! You will see camels everywhere, you will see them on a long race track training and you will see them feeding as well. This is one of the best places to see camels up close.
