A lot of tourists visit Musandam from Dubai. Musandam is also known as Norway of Arabia because of those beautiful Fjords. The best time to visit is between January and April.

Here is a road trip guide to ensure a happy and safe trip:

How to drive from Dubai to Musandam?

The driving distance is approximately 3 hours depending on starting point. It is 200 km from Deira to Khasab. if you’re travelling from Dubai Marina or nearby, it might take 3.5 hours. Your rental car should have Oman Insurance and NOC from rental company to go to Oman. Please ensure the following:

  1. The rental contract must mention that you are allowed to go across the border.
  2. Make sure you bring your valid passport and visa with you.
  3. Keep in mind that special public holidays may not be the best time to go because the borders will be crowded and you may have lines.
  4. Most nationalities are allowed visa on arrival but please check if your nationality is allowed Oman visa on arrival with your consulate or embassy.

What is the drive like?

When you drive from Dubai to Sharjah there might be some traffic. Start early morning to avoid traffic jams. Drive to Ras Al Khaimah from Sharjah and you should be at the border. Paperwork is generally quick and efficient. The drive to Khasab is breathtakingly beautiful and scenic. Drive up to Jebel Al Hareem to get amazing views of the water. Be prepared to witness mountain goats along the way. Fill up on petrol at every opportunity because you may not find many gas stations after crossing Sharjah.

Things to do in Khasab

The first thing you need to do is book a hotel. There are a number of hotels like Atana Khasab and Al Khasab Hotel that are well managed. Second, book a cruise with one of the local operators. Be prepared to bargain! There are half day and full day cruises. We recommend the full day cruise. You can do snorkeling, fishing, watch dolphins and see beautiful fjords of the peninsula.

If you are a nature lover, this is a must visit trip. It is an ideal way to experience traditional local culture away from the urban lifestyle.
