Dubai has several modes of transport and over the years, they’ve been upgraded and several more have been added to the list. If you’re moving to Dubai, getting around here can some times be tricky, so we’ve got you a list of all the modes of transport you can use in Dubai in this blog:

  • Local transport

metro

The metro and local bus are the most used forms of transport. The metro has two lines; the red one which starts at Rashidiya metro station and ends at Jebel Ali and the Green line which starts at Etisalat and ends at Creek. The most used line is the red line since it spans Downtown Dubai, which is one of the busiest areas of Dubai.

The buses connecting you to the metro are usually free-of-charge and bus timings are usually displayed on the official RTA app or Wohjati.

  • Taxis

Starting at AED 5, with a minimum spend of AED 12, you can hail a cab around the different areas in Dubai. To make it easier, the RTA has a service center, where you can book a cab beforehand to save time.

  • Uber or Careem

An alternative to taking a cab in Dubai would be to take an Uber or Careem. There are usually a lot of promotional offers during events, so this mode of transportation is preferred. If you already have Uber installed on your phone, this might be a better choice for you since it’s convenient and simple.

  • Water taxis and abras

Abras are slim boats in Old Dubai, used to transport people between Bur Dubai and Deira. If you visit the Souk, we’d definitely recommend trying out the Abra ride which will cost you 2 dirhams, back and forth. Check out our founder, Sid’s Vlog of his experience of the abra ride above.

The latest efforts by the RTA are the Dubai water taxis that take you around the canal, Dubai Design district, Festival waterfront and Marina. To use this mode of transportation, you will need a Nol Card and sufficient balance on it.

  • Renting a car
