These are the places you should definitely add to your list when you explore the UAE. In this mini-series, we’ll explore the hidden gems in Sharjah:

Noor island

al_noor_island

Probably one of the most “instagrammable” spots in the city, Al Noor Island is an innovative landscape, with a metal-carved Butterfly House which is home to tropical butterflies, a beautifully landscaped garden and the OVO art-installation.

The island also has a healthy cafe and playground, which make it perfect for that weekend family outing.

Al Noor Island hosts the International Storytelling festival, where a celebration of fables and different stories is held both in English and Arabic.

Sharjah Art foundation

SAF

The SAF is a collective of events and activities that take place throughout the year. Exhibitions are held in Sharjah’s Heritage sites, featuring performances, education programmes and film screenings of Arab and International artists.

Mleiha

Move right back in time to an era almost 130,000 years ago and learn about the Neolithic, Paleolithic, Islamic, Pre-Islamic, Bronze and Modern ages. In addition to the rich history and cultural background of this place, you can also camp in the desert, star-gaze and catch the breath-taking view of the Fossil Rock.

Wasit Nature Reserve

Wasit_Reserve

Also known as the ‘green lung’ of Sharjah, the Wasit Nature Reserve is home to an ever growing ecosystem of exotic reptiles and mammals and lush greenery. The reserve is one of our top picks because of its ‘back-to-nature’ appeal and wetlands that are known for bird-watching/spotting.

If you’re an avid bird-lover, you should totally make a trip to the reserve.
