Kiki dance challenge is a viral trend among motorists. This has prompted Dubai authorities to warn people not to try this activity. If you’re a tourist visiting Dubai, it’s important to understand why this is important.

What is Kiki Challenge?

The challenge is inspired by Drake’s music video ‘In my feelings’. This video is apparently in reference to Drake’s ex fiance Keshia ‘Keke’ Chante. The video shows Drake climbing out of a slow moving car, dancing and then going back in the moving car.

Why is this a problem?

The Drake music video has inspired thousands of people to jump out of moving cars and dance. In real life this should be completely incomprehensible. Yet it seems people want to ‘go viral’ on social media and resort to tricks like this. As a result, a lot of motorists have tried attempting this trick. This causes serious risks to them as well as fellow motorists on the road.

Avoid Kiki in Dubai

This stunt falls under the ‘dangerous driving’ category under Federal Traffic Law of UAE. According to this law, anyone attempting a dangerous stunt will face a fine of 2,000 AED and 23 black points. In addition the vehicle will be impounded for 60 days.

Recent Arrests for dangerous driving

Abu Dhabi Police recently arrested three social media users. They were making videos of dangerous driving stunts and posting them on social media. The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department said these people “endangered their lives, offended public morals and violated the traffic laws.”

Best practices to avoid fines

First, do not get out of the car when it’s moving! That might sound like common sense. However the #Kiki challenge demonstrates that common sense is not very common. Second, follow traffic regulations properly. Aside from dangerous driving another great fine magnet is not overtaking properly. Finally, remember there are cameras and police patrol cars in each area of Dubai. Don’t attempt dangerous stunts even in a quiet or secluded area. Drive safe and help others drive safe as well.
