Driving from UAE to Oman in a rental car

Yes it is possible to drive from UAE to Oman in a rental car as per the law but most car rental companies choose to avoid this conversation. This is because a lot of cars have been stolen and smuggled by crossing into Oman and disappearing. The cars disappear because the tracking devices installed in the cars don’t allow for Oman geographical coverage. So most car rental companies will not allow you to drive into Oman from UAE in a rented car simply for that reason. There are other reasons too. Normal driving limit in a car is 200-300 km but if you’re going to Oman it’s 400 km one-way minimum. So there are maintenance issues with the car that rental companies will face when the car comes back.
