Hear hear! Dubai’s RTA has completed the construction of two main bridges at the intersection of Marrakech Road and Airport Road and have planned the opening of the bridges in two phases.
Phase one will involve the new three-lane flyover on Marrakech road diverting traffic from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khawaneej heading to Deira on Friday, March 23. However, RTA will temporarily close the parallel bridge redirecting the traffic from Deira towards SMBZ road and Al Khawaneej Road in order to complete the pending construction work.
Phase two has the second bridge being opened for traffic on Friday, March 30 and the ramp leading to terminal three will be in operation approximately towards the end of April 2018.
The project’s scope extends to improving four additional junctions, inclusive of the intersection between the Airport-Casablanca Roads, Al Rashidiya intersection, and the intersection between Airport-Nad Al Hamar Roads.
The Importance of this RTA Project
Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said: “The improvement of Marrakech-Airport Roads junction includes the construction of two bridges on the Airport Road comprising three lanes in each direction.
“Works also include constructing a ramp from the bridge leading directly to Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport without waiting at the traffic signal. The project also includes the construction of a two-lane underpass to serve the traffic heading leftward from the Airport Road in the direction of Marrakech Road. The project will substantially reduce the waiting time at the intersection.”
“The Improvement of the Airport Street Project” is a part of RTA’s plan to ensure smooth traffic operations and accommodate the passengers of Dubai International Airport during the Expo 2020 (which is expected to hit a whopping 92 million!).
