Dubai is known for innovation and its love for technology. As we move towards Expo 2020, a lot of technological improvements are being made to the different industries. Dubai’s parking tests are moving towards complete digital transformation (read more here), blockchain is gaining traction in the real-estate industry, and smart cities are under construction.
Different workshops and exhibitions are held regularly to showcase the progress in innovation.
This week, the region’s biggest technology week is here, and the best technologies will be at display. One of them being Dubai’s first self-driving taxi.
Initially, the taxi will be trailed around the streets of Dubai Silicon Oasis, on dedicated routes, of course, and the vehicle will be tested and analysed for how it avoids collisions, understands routes, traffic lights and other vehicle movements around it. The car has the most up-to-date sensors, which ensure safety, security and maximum control of the car.
Mattar Al Tayer, director general and chairman of the board of executive directors of the RTA said the autonomous vehicle is ideal as a “last-mile solution”, helping commuters connect with mass transport systems such as Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram.
During the Gitex technology week, the RTA has planned to unveil more advancements like the automated Chat Bot system, built to improve customer service, an updated electronic taxi booking system, a robot cleaning system for the Dubai Metro and a loyalty programme for regular RTA metro, tram and bus users.
As part of improving and embracing Artificial Intelligence in the country, Dubai Taxis are already being equipped with real-time screens to display user’s journeys to them in real-time.
